Why should you eat avocado?
Avocado is very rich in healthy fats, antioxidants, vitamins and many other nutrients and it especially good for you heart and liver.
Avocado is a fruit and as such has an unusual amount of fat. But it's the good fat that your body needs both for good health and beautiful skin. The fat is similar to what you find in extra virgin olive oil-very nutritious.
Won't I gain weight from all the fat?
I don't recommend you eat avocado every day but as part of a balanced, healthy diet. And don't worry that you'll gain weight. Avocado contains very little fructose-that which contributes to weight gain in many people.
Perfect in homemade recipes for beauty
Avocado is often included in homemade skin care recipes. The oil is readily absorbed by your skin and is rich in nutrients.
The fat in avocado is just what your skin needs. It dissolves fat and dirt and if you prepare a scrub on avocado you'll deep cleanse your skin.
If you have dry skin avocado is useful as it moisturize your skin. You can also use on red and irritated skin after too much sunbathing.
How to quick ripen an avocado
If you only find hard, unripe avocado in the shop here is a suggestion to soften it fast.
Put the hard avocado in room temperature together with apples in a bowl. Ethylene gas from apples stimulates avocado to ripen quicker. To speed up the process even more, try putting the avocado and apples in a closed plastic or paper bag.
Facial recipe for dry skin
Mixing avocado with a little olive oil is a simple face mask for dry skin. You can also add a little honey, banana or one egg yolk. Apply for 15-20 minutes and rinse with warm water.
Use the same recipe as for dry skin; just add the whole egg--yolk and white. Add lemon juice, and if you like, mash a few grapes. Before applying this mask your skin should already be clean. Leave the mask on for 20 minutes and rinse with warm water.
Leave a few tbsp of oatmeal in water overnight so it becomes like a cream. Oatmeal is rich in healthy fats and antioxidants. It removes dead skin cells, grease and dirt.
Mix a ripe avocado with the oatmeal and add a little olive oil. Gently scrub you skin and rinse with warm water, dry with a soft towel.
For your hair
Avocado is wonderful for your hair, especially dry hair. Fat fruits help to remove grease and dirt from your hair which gets a beautiful shine. But it does not dry out your scalp. Try this recipe:
- 1 ripe avocado.
- A few tablespoons strong chamomile tea
- Add a few drops of lemon juice if you have greasy hair
Chamomile contains amino acids which gives the hair a natural shine. If you have black hair you can use red rooibos tea instead. Mix the ingredients and apply to your hair. Cover with a towel or plastic bag and leave it for 30 min. Wash your hair with a natural shampoo if possible. Do this 2-4 times for a month and you will see results.
